About Us
As
members of the CMHSAS-SJC Wellness & Recovery Team, we believe
in a
gentle and supportive approach to all people. Peer support
involves
sharing experiences, inspiring hope, and offering encouragement,
assistance, and acceptance. We embrace one another's strengths,
gifts,
and talents, and we support and assist the people we serve as they
regain control and work towards the lives that they both want and
deserve. We look forward to helping you move forward in your
personal
recovery journey!
What is Wellness?
Wellness is a lifelong, active process of becoming aware of and
making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life. It involves
multiple dimensions including physical, social, emotional,
spiritual,
vocational, intellectual, environmental, and financial health.
What is Recovery?
Recovery is a deeply personal and unique process of exploring
and
adjusting one's attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills, and
roles
while working towards a more satisfying, hopeful, and contributing
life
despite personal challenges.
What is Peer Support?
Peer Support Specialists are persons in recovery from mental
illness and/or substance abuse who work to assist others with
similar
experiences by sharing their personal recovery stories and
empowering
individuals to work towards their own life goals. All Peer Support
Specialists in the state of Michigan are trained and certified by
the
Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards (MACMHB).
