Q: Can a single person be a Foster
Parent?
A: Yes !
Q: How long will the child stay in foster
Care?
A: The goal is
between 6 months and one year. With that said, it is difficult to predict when
the child and/or his parents will progress enough on goals to make
reunification possible.
Q: How long does it take to get licensed?
A: After an
application is submitted to the agency it is reasonable to expect that
Licensure can be completed in 2-6 months. The timeframe, of course depends
on the cooperation of the family in meeting
with the agency and completing paperwork.
Q: How many children can I be licensed
for?
Q: Would I
have a choice about the types of children or adolescents placed in my foster
home?
A: Absolutely. Foster Parents are in charge of the placements into their home. A careful
referral process helps the agency stay aware of the
preferences of the Foster Parents and their current skills. As part of the
Treatment Team, the Foster Parent is involved, as much as possible in the
referral of a child to the program. You have the right to know as much
information as is available about the case, prior to placement in your home.
You will have the opportunity to meet with the child’s current service
workers, and possibly with the child, prior to placement.
